On the first day of May it was time to go to Kostrena, Croatia. The weather was nice, hot and sunny. Underwater it was a bit colder, going down to 13°C at depth.
There were quite a few things to see again and a few nice pictures came out of it.
I hoped to see a lot of nudibranchs but that wasn’t the case. I still saw a few but not as many as I had hoped. Still, I say plenty of other things which more than made up for it.
Pictures
I will start with the nudibranchs this time. They are, in order: Elysia timida, Paraflabellina ischitana and Peltodoris atromaculata.
Next, a couple of photos of yellow cluster anemone (Parazoanthus axinellae) made with a snoot.
I also tried to get a very close up photo of a spiny starfish (Marthasterias glacialis). And this is the result
This time I took my time taking photos of anemone shrimp (Periclimenes scriptus) that lives in community with an anemone. These were found in the golden anemone (Condylactis aurantiaca).
It is usually quite hard to take photos of them as they are transparent and the camera has difficulties focusing on them.
Next is an interesting fish, the lefteye flounder or scaldfish (Arnoglossus spp).
And lastly a feather star shrimp (Hippolyte prideauxiana). They live on the Mediterranean feather stars (Antedon mediterranea). The feather stars come in a variety of colors and the shrimp also take the same color. They hide very well and are easy to miss. They are also difficult to photograph well simply because they are on the bottom or inside of the feather stars.
Overall we had two nice dives again, saw quite a lot and I could took my time taking the pictures. I am especially happy with the feather star shrimp as I couldn’t get such nice pictures before, but this feather star was on top of a sponge so I had better access to it.
