Fiesa – April 2025

My first two dives of 2025. Unfortunately I only managed to get in to the water in April.
There was light rain initially but it cleared up during the day. The water had about 14°C.
I did two dives, first one for over an hour and the second one for about 40 minutes as I had only a half full cylinder.

Overall the visibility was quite standard for Fiesa. While I feel like I didn’t see as much this time, I still managed to take a few good pictures.

This was my first time trying an optical snoot system. A few pictures came up quite decent. I need to practice with it so it will only get better over time.
In addition I switched the photo editing software, so there may be some improvements in that area as well once I figure everything out.

And now for the pictures.

Pictures

I managed to take pictures of a couple pictures of squat lobsters (Galathea squamifera) that usually hide very quickly.

I also tried the snoot on various subjects. For example a sea star (Astropecten spinulosus) and an red- mouthed goby (Gobius cruentatus).
With better positioning I think the starfish especially would look even better.

Whenever I can I take pictures of hermit crabs (likely Pagurus anachoretus). Some stay still for a long time so I have plenty of opportunity to practice my macro photography skills. For reference, the one in the pictures has a 2 cm long shell.

And the most colorful species, the nudibranchs. This time I also found a new one for me.

First one is Thuridilla hopei. A small, just over 10mm long, sea slug.

On my second dive I also found a tiny Flabellina pedata (Edmundsella pedata). There was another one nearby, even smaller than this one.

And the new species for me is the Berthella ocellata. I found it in a larger crevice, purely by accident.

Overall two nice dives in Fiesa. I will have to return before the water gets too warm and maybe do a night dive as well.
